Why Pocket Change Mama Exists
Let me tell you why this website actually exists.
It’s not because I cracked the code to personal finance.
It’s not because I paid off $100,000 in debt, built a seven-figure investment portfolio, and now want to teach you my secrets.
And it’s definitely not because I’m sitting over here living large thanks to cashback apps and survey sites.
I’m still broke too. 😂
I’m a mom. I’m married. I’m raising two kids. I pay the bills, buy the groceries, deal with the random expenses that appear out of absolutely nowhere, and regularly wonder how money manages to disappear so quickly when I swear we weren’t even doing anything fun.
Sometimes everything is paid.
The lights are on.
There’s food in the house.
We’ve technically made it.
And there’s basically nothing left.
That’s the reality Pocket Change Mama was born from.
Sometimes You Don’t Need $500
Sometimes you need $5.
That’s it.
And somehow, that’s the kind of money nobody seems interested in talking about.
One of my kids might be having a really hard day and a car ride plus their familiar safe-food order could help turn things around.
Maybe I suddenly realize we’re out of something we actually need.
Maybe the gas tank is lower than I thought.
Maybe life has just decided today’s contribution will be one tiny, stupid expense I didn’t plan for.
None of those things require a new career.
They don’t require a six-month financial plan.
They require a few dollars.
Right now.
And when you’re broke, $3 isn’t “just $3.”
Three dollars can solve the problem sitting directly in front of you.
So I Started Figuring It Out
Over time, I’ve found little ways to make or find that money from my phone.
A few dollars here.
A reward there.
Something I can cash out.
An offer worth doing.
A way to save money on something I already need.
Nothing particularly glamorous.
I’m not posting screenshots of $8,000 months and telling you that you can do it too if you just ✨believe in yourself✨ and purchase my course before the timer runs out.
Sometimes we’re literally talking about three bucks.
But I’ve been in situations where three bucks mattered.
So why the hell would I gatekeep it?
If I figure out something that can help me when my bank account is giving me the financial equivalent of a middle finger, I want to tell you about it.
If I find an app that can realistically put $5 in your PayPal today, I want you to know.
If I find a way to knock $12 off something you already have to buy, I want you to know.
If I try something that promises easy money and discover it’s an absolute waste of human life?
I REALLY want you to know.
I already wasted my time.
There’s no reason we both have to.
This Isn’t a “How I Got Rich” Story
I think that’s important.
I’m not writing Pocket Change Mama from some magical future where I’ve solved all of my family’s financial problems.
I’m writing it while I’m still figuring this shit out.
There are months when things are comfortable enough.
There are months when they’re absolutely not.
There are times when I’m looking for ways to make meaningful extra income.
And there are times when I’m looking at my phone thinking:
Okay. How can I make $4 before I leave this house?
That’s real life here.
I’m not embarrassed by it, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise just because people seem more impressive on the internet when they slap the word “financial” in front of their name.
Small Money Still Matters
There’s an entire world of financial advice built around big numbers.
How to invest $10,000.
How to maximize your retirement contributions.
How to buy property.
How to build six streams of passive income.
Great.
But there’s another world happening underneath that one.
It’s people stretching grocery money.
It’s parents checking their account before saying yes to McDonald’s.
It’s somebody realizing they need gas before payday.
It’s people who already canceled the subscriptions, already shop the sales, already know they shouldn’t order DoorDash, and don’t need another article telling them to stop buying $7 coffee they weren’t buying in the first place.
Sometimes people are just doing their damn best.
I want Pocket Change Mama to be useful there.
Maybe It Grows Into Something Bigger
I’d love for some of the things I test here to turn into meaningful extra income.
I’d love to find ways to consistently save my family hundreds of dollars.
I’d love for this website itself to grow and make money.
I’m not going to pretend I don’t.
You’re allowed to want more while still appreciating what gets you through today.
That’s kind of the entire philosophy around here.
Five dollars matters.
Fifty dollars matters.
Five hundred dollars matters.
We’re going to talk about all of it.
But we’re never going to act like the smallest number doesn’t count.
Because sometimes the smallest number is the one you need most.
That’s Pocket Change Mama
This site exists because I’m figuring it out too.
I’ll test things.
I’ll research things.
I’ll tell you when something works.
I’ll tell you when it doesn’t.
I’ll share the tiny tricks I’ve picked up instead of hoarding them like I’ve discovered some sacred financial knowledge.
And hopefully, somewhere along the way, something I share helps another person solve the little problem sitting in front of them.
Maybe it saves you $20.
Maybe it makes you $50.
Maybe it helps you build something that earns a whole lot more.
Or maybe, on a particularly shitty Tuesday, it gets you the $3 you needed right then.
That counts too.
Actually, around here?
That counts a lot.
Welcome to Pocket Change Mama. 🪙
$3 isn’t impressive until you’re $3 short.
